Generosity App – Because Cancer Hurts and Generosity Heals

Total Score:  29

An app about cancer or other life threatening illnesses isn’t sexy.  It isn’t something you want to think about – but perhaps something we should remember to keep in our lives.  Reading the Generosity app magazine for iPhone or iPad, reminds us that giving of our time and/or money can make a difference in the lives of others.  In our technology filled lives, adding an app to our iPhone or iPad can remind us to take a minute to remember that giving helps others and to be present in our lives and enjoy each moment.  The magazine was created by a Florida hospital, but contains content that can be informative or inspiring to all.

Buy me a Pie - iconThere are a lot of list making apps and even specific grocery list apps on the app store.  I’ve tried a number of them and have used a few for years, but Grocery List – Buy Me a Pie!  for iPhone and iPad is my new favorite.  Probably because it is so easy to prepare a list.  And, it is equally easy to prepare a list and share it with friends and family.  Give it a try and see what you think.

IFTTT App – Create If This, Then That Scenarios

Total Score:  29.5

IFTTT app allows you to create recipes for actions.  The recipes are “if this, then that” scenarios.  If breaking news happens about your favorite sports team, you can set up a text message. You can set up text messages to warn you about weather alerts.  Since IFTTT connects to email, social media, sports, health and other apps there are a fair number of options to create “recipes” for actions for you.  I wasn’t sure I would like this, but I am getting regular emails about free Kindle books and have downloaded a fair number of them.  I’ve also passed on a number of them – but I wouldn’t have found the books without IFTTT.  And, I’m sure Amazon would appreciate this, liked the books so much that I purchased additional books by the author.

Well, Swell Radio App is Well… Swell!

Total Score: 30

I am a huge NPR fan and didn’t think anything could woo me away from my local station.  But then, I found the Swell Radio app.  I get the best of NPR, TED talks and intelligent stories from comedy, sports and news channels.  This app provides unlimited streaming audio.  It learns what you like and, over time, delivers radio-like content that matches your interests.  But, in addition to that you can decide to focus on business, comedy, sports, etc.  Continue reading

Wake Up Disney_3

Wake Up WIth Disney – A Can’t Miss Alarm App

Total Score:  28.5

I’m not one of those people who searches for new and different alarm clock apps.  The standard one was fine with me until I discovered Wake Up With Disney for iPhone and iPad.   This app has all the standard functionality of an alarm clock app, but with a Disney twist.  What would be better than to have Donald Duck screaming at you to wake up.  It made me laugh as I was testing it and I really do believe it would make me laugh every morning.  This could be appealing to children, but it’s equally appealing to us grownups.  Why shouldn’t it be, we’ve known Donald for a long time.  Continue reading

Innovez Provides Protection and Style With the iPhone 5 Life Series

innovez_2As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t keep the same cover on for more than a week. I have multiple colors and styles to keep me interested. This case, the Innovez iPhone 5 Life series, arrives in two parts. The hard back cover and the soft inner sleeve. The delightful part about this case is that you can mix and match the covers and sleeves, maximizing your options for a reasonable cost.

Use a Photo Instead of a Search Word With CamFind

Total Score:  29.5

CamFind allows you to take a photo of something to find out more about it.  That sounds simple when you try an object like an iPod.  You get the expected results, what it is, where you can buy it (relative to where you are) , product reviews and general info.  That is impressive, but nearly as impressive as taking a picture of a flower or a building around you and having it respond, fairly quickly, with everything you would want to know about it.  CamFind delivers amazing results and is likely to settle a bar bet or two.  Continue reading

Managing Mail Just Got Easier with the Mailbox App

Total Score:  28.5

I have to admit that I wasn’t searching for a new mailbox and was satisfied with the functionality of the one supplied by Apple.  I know there are a lot of better mailboxes out there, but I need one that combines my Google, Yahoo and POP accounts.  Why would I switch to one that only handled my Google account.  Well, the functionality of the Orchestra, Inc. iPad and iPhone Mailbox looked to be significantly improved and it promises to add other options.  With that promise, I downloaded the app and fell in love.
