Flashlight App – You’ll find it Indispensable

Total Score:  27.5

One of the necessities of life is a flashlight when you need it.  Can you picture yourself in any of these situations?  Have you ever been at a door and the light is unexpectedly out and you need to find the key hole? Have you ever dropped something in the dark and need to search for it? What do you always have with you?  Your cell phone.  Why not add a tool that can help you solve these problems? I can tell you it came in handy on my last vacation when I was trying to work with a lock that was unfamiliar to me.  It just makes sense to add this Flashlight app to your phone.  It provides you with this basic feature (light) and, actually, a whole lot more.

Consumer Review Rating = 3.5     There are more than 464,000 ratings and they currently average three and one half stars.  The website for this app indicates over a million people have downloaded the app.  That alone is impressive.

Why Do You Need This App Rating = 5     All of us are occasionally faced with a need to find our way around in the dark.  I do not like the dark, so I’m saying this is a necessity.

How does it work?

  1. When you open the app, it shows the screen that you selected in the settings as your first choice for light – I like blue.  If you want to adjust the settings, you touch the screen and the customize option opens.  You select “screens.”  You can set a number of colors, display a clock, or see holiday themed screens.  You can also adjust the order of the colors through the edit screen.
  2. From the customize section you can adjust your “settings.” You can set a timeout to turn off your display if you happen to leave it on.  You can customize the options to open the customize screen or set the option to return to the first screen or always stay on a certain screen.
  3. As it is displaying, you can adjust the intensity of the light by sliding your finger up or down the screen.

That’s it for instructions.  It’s very easy.  One helpful setting is a digital clock.  I haven’t used this feature a lot, but I expect to in the future.  I can use it when I am presenting to keep track of my time without calling attention to the issue by looking at my watch. Also, to keep track of time during meetings.  I look forward to finding more uses.  You can also set this screen to display an analog clock.

Devices:  This app is compatible with iPhone, iPod and iPad.  Requires iOS 4.3 or later.  App developed by John Haney.

Note:  It isn’t easy to show images of a flashlight, but here’s a couple of screens to give you an idea of what you can see.
